Inspired by our great cousins, the gold miners, true fortune finders,
itinerants who rode from the tip of Golden Point to the Pyrenesse Mountains & down to Old Gullys’ Edge.
Those doomed to worked a thousand cradles to carve a future out of ore.
1852 saw the imposition of an Act; a license fee of £1 per week
to restrict unauthorized mining on Crown Land.
Red Coats raided camps, arresting those who couldn’t buy the right,
chaining honest men to trees, putting them to work
like livestock in favor of, if one could call it such, the justice system.
Gold, which was once awash on the surface of the riverbed was now hidden deep underground.
As the taxes rose higher, the miners descended deeper.
Under the cloak of darkness, side by side, the brethren dug, mining in secret, lining their pockets with stolen gold.
It was to be one last drive, the final night when the valley trembled as the earth collapsed below Segenhoe.
The elaborate complex of interconnected tunnels gone in an instant. Thousands in unclaimed gold & two generations buried in the burrows below.
Leaden Hearts Segenhoe Tombstone 24ct. Gold Flake Whiskey marks the 125-year anniversary of the collapse of the mine at Segenhoe.
It is a testament to the lives of the 6 men who were buried alive. Those resourceful scoundrels who hid their stolen gold in bottles of whiskey,
creating the unofficial original bottles of gold flake spirits in the country. It stands alone as our richest & smoothest whiskey;
double-barrelled & filtered from our signature oak barrels replete with 24ct. gold flakes panned as they would have been at Gullys’ Edge.
In honor of them, all they stood for, & all who share their lustful spirits,
this is for You.
